Art Nouveau and Art Deco Cross Stitch Art Nouveau and Art Deco cross stitch kits are featured in this section. Art Nouveau ("new art") grew from the Arts and Crafts movement at the end of the 19th century. It was a truely international movement which produced artchitecture, furniture, ceramics, jewellery, paintings and all manner of graphic art, notably throughout Europe and in the United States. The works of artists such as Gustav Klimt, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Alphonso Mucha and Charles Comfort Tiffany, featured flowing curves and motifs inspired by plant life, and are typical of the Art Nouveau style. In contrast, Art Deco used geometric shapes, with a hard streamlined modern look, inspired by new technology. It was a perfect style for the new age of mass production and reached its peak of popularity during the 1920s and 30s. It was used extensively in the decoration of ocean liners, railway stations and important buildings, such as the iconic Chrysler Building in New York.
