About Nel Whatmore

Nel Whatmore cross stitch

Nel Whatmore studied art and design at Wolverhapton University, and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree at Trinity and All saints College, Leeds. She has been a professional artist since 1986 and has exhibited at the Albert Docks in Liverpool, the Chelsea Flower Show and the national Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, as well as successful one woman shows for the last 12 years.

Her work is sold widely in the UK, the USA and other countries, as limited editions, posters and greetings cards. Her artwork covers a wide variety of subjects from flowers and landscape to abstract compositions. Writing poetry is an integral part of her painting, providing inspiration for her designs. She feels that good art should move people on some emotional level.

About Erte

Erte cross stitch

Romain de Tirtoff, known as Erte after the French pronunciation of his initials, was born in St. Petersburg in 1892. He moved to Paris in 1912 to become a fashion illustrator with Harper's Bazaar. He was famous for the exotic costumes and stage sets which he designed for the Folies-Bergere. As well as the music hall, Erte also designed for the opera and the theatre, and spent a period in Hollywood with MGM. Many books have been published on Erte's work, including one on 'Erte Sculpture'.
